It absolutely will have a short term detrimental effect as you learn the new DAW. I think the message you want to send is that changing DAW’s, just like changing gear, isn’t going to make anyone better. Very little routing of audio for instance was becoming a huge burden. Fast forward two years, and I start to realize some of the limitations are hindering me. It would do the things I needed as a new engineer. For someone who had never used a DAW, it was fine. However, in some cases, there are very legit reasons to switch software. I do agree that in general, the best avenue to improving is to improve yourself. I think you’ve missed a very important point in your conversation.
I’ve been doing full iOS production now for a little over a year but have been on Auria for 4 years now I guess, I don’t plan on switching at all I’ve found the daw for me. All of my mixes came out almost alike but you can tell I tweaked a little different here a little different there that’s when I realized the iPad is where it’s at for me i can make music here that’s professional and it’s inspiring so I left Logic Pro and Pro Tools behind. I got a great sound out of it but it dawned on me hey let’s see which one of these sound better ha. I got tricked by marketing and listening to other people oh you should get Pro Tools because working with other artist will be easier all studios have Pro Tools because it is the standard and while I bought into the subscription I used it but I didn’t like the way it functions. Then the iPad came into my life and I have been using Auria/Auria Pro since it was launched I found I have less options but enough options which keeps me from going through 800 plugins and just using what I need.
Since then I tried other daws to just to only get frustrated and go back to logic. When I switched to a MacBook Pro I bought Logic Pro 9 (about 20011) I used it for years. I started using Nuendo when I was on windows because a friend gave it to me for free.
What’s up Graham I could’ve used this info a little over a year ago lol.
